Proclaiming the Good News of God in Christ

Combined Choir Evensong February 22nd

The combined choirs of All Saints Episcopal Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral will present their annual Choral Evensong on Sunday, February 22, at 4:00 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 9302 Blondo, in Omaha.  The traditional Anglican liturgy of sung Evening Prayer will include Anglican chant, evening canticles, hymns, prayers, and anthems.

This is the seventh year of the annual collaboration between the choirs and parishes.  The first combined Lenten Evensong was held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in 2009.  The choirs prepare the music on their own, then combine efforts under the leadership of the music directors from the three parishes, Dr. Michael Bauer, Dr. Marty Wheeler Burnett, and Dr. Laura Palmer.  The three parishes alternate in hosting the annual liturgy.  The rector of the host parish serves as the officiant.

This year’s Evensong features choral and organ works by the late Stephen Paulus, a Grammy-nominated Minnesota composer who died in 2014 due to complications following a stroke.  Paulus composed over 400 works for chorus, including the poignant “Pilgrims’ Hymn,” which was sung at the funerals of Presidents Reagan and Ford and will be included in the Evensong service.

A reception will follow the service, and all are welcome.
