Upcoming St. Augustine’s Culture Club Events
Opera Omaha The Flowering Tree–February 13, Friday or February 15, Sunday
Opera Omaha is hosting a new opera based on an Indian (Asian not Native American) folktale. I have talked to the people at Opera Omaha, and we will be setting up a priority code that you can type in to get the best price point. You will choose your seats and if you want to sit with another person you can coordinate with them or purchase them all together. This also allows you to choose the seats that best fit your budget. If you don’t want the $50 seats, you can look and see what else is available that may cost a little less. You will be able to go on line and see where the seats will be. I am happy to help people navigate this system so you can get the price and seats that work for you.
I would like to try this at least once and see if it works for us. Because we have people who can only go on Friday and others who prefer to go on Sunday, this should give us some flexibility. I will learn more, and forward that on, but the Friday performance is February 13 at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday performance is February 15 at 2 p.m. Student tickets will still be $10 each.
Love blooms in the ravishing beauty of American composer John Adams’ recent opera inspired by a mystical folktale from India. A Flowering Tree is the story of a young couple’s sacrifice and transformation for love. Universal truths of the human experience will be vividly expressed by a powerful cast including modern dancers and a large chorus, together illuminating the breathtaking sonic landscapes.
To create this modern telling of an ancient story, Opera Omaha welcomes back the dynamic director and design team that gave us last season’s thrilling production of Agrippina. Christopher Rountree, the founder and director of Los Angeles’ sensational new ensemble, wild Up, will conduct. Expect another unforgettable Opera Omaha premiere production. Opera Omaha is giving us a Priority Code that will be good through the first week in January: “BLOOM.” You can either call Ticket Omaha at 402-345-0606 or go on line to Ticket Omaha and you will get tickets for half price from wherever you would like to sit. If you want to sit with someone, you will have to work that out on your own using this system.
The Priority Code that will give you half-price tickets is BLOOM; it is not case sensitive. They have done away with the $10 student price except as a RUSH ticket the day of performance. There are some very close to the front tickets that are $19 each, but they go quickly.
With the BLOOM Priority Code You can choose the Friday night or Sunday afternoon performance. This means we will not all sit together unless you ask your friends to do so.
Omaha Community Playhouse Jesus Christ Superstar-Sunday, 2 p.m. March 8
This classic musical will be at the Playhouse during Lent. We are planning a group to go on Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m. THIS IS THE DAY DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME STARTS SO DON’T BE LATE.
I have a block of seats for adults reserved for $30 each (a discount of $10 per ticket), and I will need your checks to me or to St. Augustine’s Church by February 1. Checks for adult tickets should be made out to Omaha Community Playhouse. The number of adult tickets should be written on the tickets. Questions?? Contact me.
For student tickets if you are a youth group, please write one check for all your the kids made out to St. Augustine’s Church by February 1, indicating how many student tickets you want to purchase at $7 each for the March 8 performance.. They will be purchased separately from the adults so please keep the checks separate. These can be given to me, Sandra Squires, or Chris Mattson, our Youth Director, or mailed to St. Augustine’s Church, 285 S. 208th Street, Elkhorn, NE 68022. I will try to get these seats in blocks.
Student tickets for opening weekend for Jesus Christ Superstar are $7 each-almost $20 cheaper than the usual ticket! They will not reserve a block of student tickets for me, but I will be purchasing them as soon as possible after the 1st of February. If you have questions about student tickets for kids not a part of a youth group, I would just call and reserve them when they go on sale in February. There will be no refunds for student or adult tickets not used.
Remember, if you have any questions, feel free to call me at 402-397-4059 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Make sure you explain what you need and give me contact information for contacting you back. Please give your full name and church to any emails or phone calls.
I will be out of town right before the opening of Jesus Christ Superstar so we have to have all of these settled in advance or you will be on your own to get tickets. Adult discounted tickets have to be purchased by that February 1 deadline to get our $30 price. After that date, they release the rest of the block to other buyers and you will have to pay $40 per adult ticket. We have to have 12 adult tickets to get the $30 price.
Performances are always top quality, so this should be a great show!
